DYNAMIC VOICES IN THE MEN’S MOVEMENT :  MESSRS. JOEL AUSTIN, ADEYEMI BANDELE, KENNETH BRASWELL, RONALD E. CHILDS, GARY A. JOHNSON and TIM McKYER

PHILADELPHIA, PA.  – 27 APRIL 2005 -- They are empowering Men and Fathers.  They are dynamic voices in the Men’s Movement.  They are Messrs. Joel Austin, President of Daddy UniverseCity, Inc., Adeyemi Bandele, Executive Director of “Men On The Move”; Ronald E. Childs, Media Relations Director at Flowers Communications Group, Inc.; Kenneth Braswell, Executive Director of Fathers, Incorporated; Gary A. Johnson,  Founder, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Black Men In America.com; and Tim McKyer, NFL All Pro Corner Back. These gentlemen have some powerful things to say about parenting in the Millennium from a male perspective, “gender wars”, where the responsibility lies in providing our children with the tools that they will need to become successful and well-adjusted adults, and why Men are so fired up!   This dynamic group of gentlemen are telling their story with a “straight-no-chaser-take-no-prisoners-yeah-I-said-it” attitude to In Search Of Fatherhood® Forum For and About the Fathers of the World in the quarterly international male parenting journal’s  “Life Lessons” – Spring 2005 issue

The “Life Lessons” – Spring 2005 issue of In Search Of Fatherhood® Forum For and About the Fathers of the World is scheduled for release on Friday, 30 April 2005.

L I F E   L E S S O N S

Our young ones come into our world brimming with unbridled curiosity and untapped potential.  What do they dream of?  How are the adults in their world shaping their sense of reality and their perception of the world that exists outside of their immediate environment?  Will they remember the life lessons taught to them during their childhood by the Elders as they navigate the turbulent waters of adulthood?  When our young ones have made the journey from childhood to adulthood, will they be strong enough to “step out on faith”?  Will they remember that knowledge is the key that will open any door?  Will they remember to choose their friends wisely? When tested, will they have the courage to embark upon the road less traveled?  Will they truly understand that while it is good to know where you are and where you are going, it is equally important to know where you have been?  Will they truly understand that their predecessors unselfishly created opportunities for them?  Will they understand that they, too, must create opportunities for those who will come after them?  And when our young ones become Elders, what life lessons will they teach?

Ms. Lorna Neysmith, a rising star on the literary horizon, sets the tone for the “Life Lessons” issue of our “International Conversation on Fatherhood” with her poem Young Ones.  Our diverse group of Contributing Editors have decided to share some very interesting life lessons with us.

Mr. Paul Clements asks and answers the question:  Why Are Men So Angry?  Mrs. Janet Mikul Collins explores Our Society’s “Zero Tolerance” Policy.  Mr. Randy L. Collins turns the heat up a notch in Do We Really Want To Elevate “Zero Tolerance” To “Strike One Of Three Strikes, You’re Out?  Thomas R. Golden, LCSW explores Anger As A Path To Grief.  Poet and self-empowerment guru Mr. Carry Greaves bears his soul in My Mentor And Role Model:  Mrs. Fiona Greaves Forte Ms. Bridgett Hollingsworth, Publisher and Editorial Director of Chicago-based Bahiyah Woman Magazine dishes out some “tough love” to women in Sistahs, Let’s Wake Up!  We learn about Darrell’s Day from Mr. C.M. Moore.  And award-winning journalist Mr. Mike Ramey weighs in with Failure:  A Great – Teacher?

Six phenomenal men who are dynamic voices in the Men’s Movement -- Joel Austin, Adeyemi Bandele, Kenneth Braswell, Ronald E. Childs, Gary A. Johnson and Tim McKyer speak with unabashed honesty about the challenges of parenting in the Millennium, “gender wars”, and why Men throughout our global village are “fired up” in our Dialogue section.  Tax and Financial Services Guru Mr. Manning H. Mosley III, EA takes readers on a “Scavenger Hunt” in Money Matter$.  In The Spotlight features a review of Reclaim Your Power, which is the latest work of Mr. Terrance Dean – columnist, author, Founder of Men’s Empowerment, Inc. and former producer for MTV.

When Ms. Paris Nicole Payton, a Philadelphia native and an Entertainment Consultant/Manager & Sports Personal Assistant invited me to collaborate with her to focus on the “human” and “positive” side of football, I immediately said “Yes!”   This collaboration led to the creation of “Fatherhood In The NFL”  -- a roundtable discussion on Fatherhood that features Mr. Samuel McNabb, the President and Co-Founder of the National Football Players Father Association and father of Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Donovan McNabb and Mr. Paul Spicer, a Defensive End for the Jacksonville Jaguars. So, what did they talk about?  Well, you’ll have to read the Fatherhood Roundtable!

The Women’s Roundtable on Fatherhood is the result of a collaboration between this publication and James Rodriguez, M.S.W., the President and Chief Executive Officer of Arizona Fathers and Families Coalition, Inc. and makes its debut in this issue.   You’ll meet five women – Mrs. Latisha Centers-Broom, Carole J. Consentino, M.Ed. and Mses. Elva E. Casavalente, Lara Kerry and Brenda Patterson – who support Men and Fathers and understand the critical role that Men – especially Men who are Fathers – play in our families, in our communities and in our society.  If you were unable to attend the “Making The Connection” --Sixth Annual Southwestern Fatherhood & Families Conference that took place in February 2005 in Phoenix, Arizona, you can find out what you missed in the Arizona Fathers & Families Coalition, Inc.’s 2005 Post-Conference Report which is authored by James Rodriguez, M.S.W.   If you’re looking for resources and support services that exist for Fathers throughout our global village, check out our We’ve Got Your Back section.  And you’ll learn about a number of events that focus on Fatherhood and Men’s issues in our Fatherhood News Brief section.

Messrs.  Paul Clements and Carry Greaves and Ms. Lorna Neysmith bring the “International Conversation on Fatherhood” to a poetic conclusion in our What’s On Your Mind section.

Creating the “Life Lessons” issue of In Search Of Fatherhood® Forum For and About the Fathers of the World was truly a team effort.  I would like to express my sincere thanks to Joel Austin, Adeyemi Bandele,  Kenneth Braswell, Latisha Centers-Broom, Elva E. Casavalente, Ronald E. Childs, Paul Clements, Janet Mikul Collins, Randy L. Collins, Carol J. Consentino, M.Ed., Terrance Dean, Carry Greaves, Thomas R. Golden, LCSW, Bridgett Hollingsworth, Gary A. Johnson, Lara Kerry, Samuel McNabb, Tim McKyer, C.D. Moore, Manning H. Mosley III, EA, Lorna V. Neysmith, Brenda Patterson, Paris Nicole Payton, Mike Ramey, James Rodriguez, M.S.W. and Paul Spicer.
