mainstream media. African American men through
Real Men Cook: Rites, Rituals And
Recipes For Living tell their story. It is a story that is
encapsulated in Real Men Cook: Rites,
Rituals And Recipes for Living – a story that K. Kofi Moyo and
Yvette Moyo – through Real Men Cook® and Real Men Cook® For Charity have
provided hundreds of thousands of African American men – our fathers,
uncles, brothers, nephews, grandfathers, sons, neighbors, educators,
lawyers, entertainers, entrepreneurs, authors and coaches -- to tell for
the past seventeen years on Father’s Day.
Created
seventeen years ago on Father’s Day in Chicago, Illinois, K. Kofi Moyo and
Yvette Moyo collaborated with a group men and created a Family Celebration
which would raise money for local charitable organizations and provide the
male participants with an opportunity to showcase their culinary skills by
preparing a signature dish. The event was also designed to honor the
unsung heroes of the African American community – the “Real Men” – who
quietly go about the business of shaping the minds and souls of their
children and strengthening and empowering their families, their community
and our society. This event is now known as Real Men Cook® and occurs on
Father’s Day in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, New Orleans,
Miami, Philadelphia, Dallas, Atlanta, Miami, Washington, DC and Phoenix.
What started as a Food Festival to raise money for charitable
organizations has now become Real Men Cook® for Charity – a national
movement!
