Proud Poppa
New Magazine Focuses on African American
Fatherhood
(Harlem,
NY) The creation of Proud Poppa personifies the motivating words of Ralph
Waldo Emerson: “do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is
no path and leave a trail.” More than a publication, Proud Poppa is an
empowerment strategy designed to celebrate, elevate and replicate fatherhood
success principles in the Black community.
The mission of Proud Poppa is
to celebrate, elevate and replicate fatherhood success principles in the
Black community. We believe that the cavalry is not coming to save the day
in our communities and that Black men and mentors must creatively lead and
leverage their social capital and personal assets to create community
collaborations for healing, empowerment and social entrepreneurship. The
publication and distribution of Proud Poppa in New York and other
Seed Cities is a prime example of how we can become masters of our own media
and contribute to positive change in our own lives, our families and our
communities. For more information

The Father
Influence in You
Kenneth
Braswell & Roxanne Wright
(June
15, 2006, New York) We know
that we are products of our experiences. Those experiences include
people who have been a part of our lives, or have not. We know
that we are the biological result of two people pairing – either
fleetingly or more permanently. Around this time each year, we are
reminded that society refers to one of those people as "the father".

Joint custody
Give kids of divorce what's best
By KENNETH BRASWELL and ROXANNE
WRIGHT
First
published: Times Union. Sunday, June 12, 2005
For as long as there have been separations
and divorces, there have been issues of child custody. When the family
unit is intact, the issue of who spends what amount of time with the
children is usually one of mutual agreement or circumstance. It is only
when there is a parting of the ways that this becomes an issue of (often
heated) debate. With the divorce rate continuing to skyrocket, the issue
of how much time each parent is legally entitled to spend with his or her
child is one that is more and more common.
